Find the interior volume of a box-shaped or cylindrical space — a bin, tank, room, or container — in cubic feet, cubic yards, cubic meters, or gallons.

For a box, we multiply length × width × height. For a cylinder, we multiply π × (diameter ÷ 2)² by the height, squaring the radius rather than the diameter. From that base cubic-foot (or cubic-meter) figure, we also convert to cubic yards by dividing by 27, and to gallons by multiplying by about 7.48 — the number of gallons in one cubic foot.
These are the same standard geometric volume formulas used for any box or cylinder shape — the main risk of error doing this by hand is using diameter directly instead of squaring the radius for a cylinder. Showing gallons alongside cubic feet matters for tanks and containers, since most of those are rated or filled by gallon capacity rather than cubic volume, while cubic yards is the more useful unit for larger excavation or fill jobs.
Multiply your square footage by the height or depth of the space. If you already know the floor area, enter it as length × width = 1, or use the box shape with your known area as length and width.
